  • Khoo Teck Puat Hospital

Khoo Teck Puat Hospital (KTPH) is the first public restructured hospital to open in Singapore in 10 years. This modern 550-bed regional hospital offers a comprehensive range of medical services and specialist care. . Managed by Alexandra Health, KTPH marks the beginning of the cluster’s plans to build an integrated healthcare hub, providing high quality and affordable healthcare to the community in the northern region of Singapore. Future plans for the cluster include the establishment of a new community hospital and a medical centre.

KTPH’s vision is to “help our people live a long, healthy life and support them with thoughtful, dignified care to the end”. Its mission is to “provide good quality, affordable and hassle-free healthcare with science, love and wisdom”. KTPH is also the first internationally-recognised Health Promoting Hospital (HPH) in Singapore under the WHO-Collaborating Centres for Health Promotion in Hospitals and Health Care.

As a HPH, health promotion at KTPH is holistically categorised under five tracks:

    1. Eat Wisely
    2. Exercise Regularly
    3. Being Happy
    4. Stop Smoking
    5. Practise Good Hygiene

This tour will highlight how KTPH uses strategic visual tactics to convey health promoting messages to the public (i.e. calorie counting at cafeteria, IPTV messaging, wall murals, etc)In addition, it will acquaint you with the different initiatives that are being conducted to promote holistic healthcare.

Being a newly built hospital, KTPH has the advantage of furthering our health promoting message through place-making and environmental design. The physical design of KTPH is firmly grounded in its green and energy efficient design. Studies have shown that patients recover faster in a green and healing environment. It is for this reason that KTPH is built as a “hospital in a garden” and a “garden in a hospital”, with vast areas of the hospital devoted to greenery. Sustainable development and the preservation of biodiversity are also important components of KTPH’s environmental philosophy. The tour will also identify initiatives that promote these efforts including urban farming on the rooftop garden , creation of ecosystems to for biodiversity, and green practices to sustain a healthy workplace.
